Is FreeOSZoo ready for use in production?
FreeOSZoo and QEMU are designed for learning purposes. They are not intended for use in a company or in a production process. If you are looking for reliability, please install a Free OS on real hardware. Before using FreeOSZoo, you are supposed to read and accept our conditions.

Can QEMU destroy the host Operating System (my existing OS)?
Because QEMU only writes information in the guest OS, the chances to destroy the host OS are very low.

Can QEMU destroy the guest Operating System (the OS provided by FreeOSZoo)?
The guest OS provided by FreeOSZoo is executing into QEMU emulated environment, including a virtual hard drive and a virtual memory space. Whenever a serious problem happens on the host OS (like a power failure, a virus, a hard-disc failure, etc...), the guest OS provided by FreeOSZoo may be destroyed. We can only recommend to make daily backups.

How fast is FreeOSZoo?
QEMU emulated environment is from twice to four times slower than real hardware.

How much disc space do I need?
You need at least the same space as the size of the FreeOSZoo unpacked image. Generaly from 1 Gb to 4.3 Gb. Check the download section.

How much memory do I need on the host?
You probably need 256 Mb or more on the host to allow execution of the guest OS without accessing virtual memory.

How do I install software in a modern GNU/Linux distribution like Mandrake or SuSE?
A single installer connects to mirrors and allows you to install/upgrade/remove software.

Will I need to configure FreeOSZoo Operating Systems?
FreeOSZoo Operating Systems are fully configured. Some systems like the GNU/linux SuSE guest display configuration wizards on first startup.

Shall I remove my proprietary OS to benefit from FreeOSZoo?
FreeOSZoo allows you to install a Free OS on top of your existing OS. You existing OS is left unchanged.

Why should I use two systems simultaneously, a proprietary one and a free one?
Using two systems will help you discover Free Software and make your own mind. Liberty cannot be imposed, it can only be gained over ignorance.

Why should I access 30.000 Free Softwares if I only need three or four proprietary softwares?
If you only use three or four proprietary softwares daily, you will love FreeOSZoo.
